Holster Skills is a focused 4-hour course designed to introduce students to the safe, consistent, and efficient use of an outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster. This class is an excellent first step for shooters who are ready to move beyond static shooting and begin building the foundational skills required to safely draw from a holster in a controlled range environment.

The course begins with a strong emphasis on the Firearm Safety Rules and how they specifically apply when working from a holster. Students will learn proper holster selection, positioning, and setup to ensure both safety and consistency. Instruction then breaks down the draw stroke into clear, manageable steps—allowing students to build a smooth, repeatable process from the holster to a ready-to-fire position.

Through guided dry-fire practice, students will develop safe mechanics, proper hand placement, and efficient movement patterns without the pressure of live fire. As confidence and proficiency grow, students will transition into live-fire exercises where they will apply these skills under direct supervision, reinforcing safe and consistent execution.

Additional focus is placed on responding to range commands, maintaining awareness, and safely reholstering—one of the most critical and often overlooked aspects of holster work. Students will also begin developing the discipline and mindset required to work from the holster responsibly and with control.

Throughout the course, safety remains the top priority, with strict adherence to all range protocols and procedures. By the end of the class, students will have a clear understanding of safe holster use, a foundational draw stroke they can build upon, and the confidence to continue progressing in their firearms training journey.

New Shooter is a comprehensive 4-hour introductory program designed to equip first-time shooters with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to safely handle and enjoy shooting a handgun. This course is ideal for individuals who are new to firearms or may have limited experience and want a structured, supportive environment to learn the fundamentals.

Students will be guided through the core principles of firearm safety, proper handling, and range etiquette before progressing into the essential components and operation of a semi-automatic handgun. Through a combination of classroom-style instruction and hands-on application, participants will learn grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control, and safe loading and unloading procedures.

Our approach focuses on building confidence at a comfortable pace, ensuring each student feels supported and capable throughout the learning process. By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundation in safe firearm practices and the basic marksmanship skills necessary to continue training and responsibly participate in range activities.

Red Dot Management is a comprehensive 4-hour course designed to introduce shooters to the fundamentals of running a pistol-mounted red dot optic with confidence and efficiency. Whether you’re new to optics or transitioning from traditional iron sights, this class provides a structured, supportive environment to help you understand and apply this increasingly popular aiming system.

The course begins with a clear breakdown of what red dot optics are, how they function, and the advantages they offer for speed, accuracy, and target focus. Students will learn proper setup considerations, including dot brightness, zeroing concepts, and how to present the firearm consistently to quickly acquire the dot.

From there, instruction moves into application. Through guided dry-fire drills, students will develop the visual discipline and presentation skills needed to reliably find the dot without hesitation. These skills are then reinforced during live-fire exercises, allowing students to apply what they’ve learned in real time while receiving individualized coaching.

A strong emphasis is placed on self-diagnosis and corrective techniques unique to red dot shooting. Students will learn how to identify common issues—such as “fishing” for the dot or inconsistent presentation—and how to correct them through purposeful practice. Throughout the course, safe firearm handling and strict adherence to range safety protocols remain a top priority.

By the end of this class, students will have a solid understanding of red dot fundamentals, increased confidence in their ability to run an optic-equipped pistol, and practical tools to continue improving their performance beyond the course.

This course satisfies the classroom/range requirements to obtain your Michigan Concealed Pistol License. The course is designed around basic firearms safety and use with a focus on legal requirements and laws surrounding firearms.

The class will begin at 8am and run until 6pm.

Pre-payment is required unless prior arrangements have been made. Cost is $120 for non-SMGC members and $100 for members of SMGC.

We will be holding a “working lunch” so please bring your own food. We will have access to a refrigerator and microwave. There is a lot of information to cover so your presence is required.

For the range portion of the class. Please let me know what firearm you are bringing to the course.  Please bring firearm, ear protection, eye protection, billed cap (baseball cap), 50 rounds of ammunition, and weather appropriate clothing. We will be holding the live fire portion of the class OUTDOORS we will shoot in the rain or snow.
